I like to be positive, and talk about what you should eat when you’re pregnant. To be honest, there are a lot of foods and beverages to avoid when you’re expecting a child. Here’s my latest article on the topic: http://www.webmd.com/baby/features/foods-to-avoid-when-youre-pregnant.

Thanks for the balanced look at what we shouldn’t eat during pregnancy. I’m doing some work with Jennifer McGuire, MS, RD and manager of nutrition communications at the National Fisheries Institute. Everything you said is true, but I do want to point you to a social media release that looks at proposed changes to the 2004 seafood advisory that will be adopted in 2010 (http://pitch.pe/79372). The Dietary Guidelines for Americans Advisory Committee has recommended to the USDA and FDA that we encourage pregnant and lactating women to eat at LEAST two servings of fish per week. The release will give you access to the Committee’s recommendations in full as well as a 3-minutes video that Jennifer taped — it’s a primer specific to the proposed changes in seafood nutrition policy. I hope you’ll take a look. Obviously, when the advice changes, we want RDs to help us spread the word. Thank in advance, Hillary
